Stripe Fee Calculator

Compute Stripe merchant fees across card, ACH, invoicing, and subscription transactions. Forward: amount → net. Reverse: net → what to charge. Fees last updated 2026-04.

How fees work
  • Card payments cost 2.9% + $0.30 domestic, 3.9% + $0.30 international. ACH is flat 0.8% capped at $5.
  • ACH is cheapest for large transactions — a $10,000 bank transfer costs $5, while the same via card would cost $290.30.
  • Reverse lookup tells you the exact amount to charge so that you net a specific target after Stripe's fees.

How Stripe's fees work

Stripe uses a simple pattern: a percentage of the transaction plus a fixed cents fee. For US card payments it's 2.9% + $0.30. International cards add 1 percentage point, ACH is a flat 0.8% capped at $5, and Invoicing or Subscriptions layer an additional 0.4–0.5% on top of the underlying card rate.

Two secondary fees catch people off guard: instant payouts (1.5% of whatever you transfer to your bank, for same-day deposits) and dispute fees ($15 per chargeback, non-refundable regardless of who wins). High-volume merchants can negotiate "Interchange Plus" pricing that beats these standard rates — usually starts around $80k/month in processing.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between Stripe's domestic and international card rates?
Domestic (US) cards are 2.9% + $0.30. International cards are 3.9% + $0.30 — a full percentage point more. Stripe determines 'international' by the card-issuing bank's country, not the buyer's IP. A tourist in the US paying with a UK-issued card triggers the international rate.
When does ACH beat cards on Stripe?
ACH is 0.8% capped at $5. The break-even vs. cards is around $150 — any ACH transaction over that is cheaper than a card. For a $5,000 invoice, ACH costs $5 while the same via card costs $145.30. ACH takes 3–5 business days to settle, which is why it's not used for e-commerce checkout.
How do Stripe Invoicing and Subscription fees layer?
Both add a small percentage ON TOP of the normal card processing fee. Invoicing = card rate + 0.4%. Subscription (Stripe Billing) = card rate + 0.5%. On a $100 subscription paid by US card: 2.9% + $0.30 card + 0.5% subscription = $3.70 total.
Can I negotiate lower rates with Stripe?
Yes, once you hit ~$80k/month in processing volume. Stripe's 'Interchange Plus' pricing exposes the underlying interchange fees (set by Visa/Mastercard) plus a small Stripe markup, typically 0.15–0.25% + 5¢. For merchants above $80k/mo this usually beats the 2.9% flat rate by 0.3–0.5 percentage points.
Who pays the dispute fee?
You do, regardless of who wins. A dispute (chargeback) costs $15 per occurrence, non-refundable even if Stripe rules in your favor. If you lose, you also lose the original transaction amount. Cumulative dispute rates above 1% trigger additional monitoring fees.
